Swati Abbott is recognized for her extensive domain knowledge in data & analytics along with industry leadership within payer, provider, and pharmaceutical markets.  She has also been very effective in turning around underperforming companies into highly efficient and high growth companies.  As a respected industry leader, Ms. Abbott is often called upon by leading industry publications for her opinions and experiences regarding the use and future of healthcare analytics and the state of healthcare data and quality improvement initiatives. Ms. Abbott serves on the board of The Ensign Group, Inc. (ENSG) where she chairs the Compensation Committee as well as serve on the Audit Committee and the Quality & Compliance Committee. Additionally, Ms. Abbott serves on the board of Prognos, a privately held lab data analytics company where she chairs the Audit Committee.  Ms. Abbott also served on the board of Magellan Health, Inc. (MGLN) until Magellan’s acquisition by Centene in January 2022. At Magellan, Ms. Abbott chaired the Nominating and Governance Committee and served on the Quality & Compliance Committee.  She also serves on the Industry Advisory Group for University of Chicago.

Blue Health Intelligence (BHI) is a for-profit independent company owned by 18 Blue Cross Blue Shield plans as well as Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA).  BHI has the largest medical and pharmacy claims database in the United States.  BHI’s mission is to leverage the data and advanced analytics to improve outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.

BHI was spun out of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association in 2011 as a standalone for-profit company.  At that time, the company had expenses of $25M per year and no revenue.  Upon joining BHI, Ms. Abbott laid out a strategic business plan for the company and raised 38M in capital from 18 Blue Cross Blue Shield plans.

Through effective strategy and strong operational skills, she drove the company to be profitable within 3 years.  Under Ms. Abbott’s leadership, BHI has emerged as a leading provider of data, analytical consulting, as well as software solutions for payers, providers and life sciences companies with revenues over 60M in 2021. The company saw over 400% revenue and profit growth under her leadership.

As CEO of BHI, Ms. Abbott was a trusted advisor and partner for the Blue Cross Blue Shield CEOs and senior leadership.  She worked very closely with the Blues as well as BCBSA to leverage data and advanced analytics to inform provider transparency, establishing high performance networks and measuring success of value-based care.

MEDai was a leading predictive analytics company that helped payers and providers prioritize and stratify their integrated care management efforts. Ms. Abbott aggressively grew revenues by 300% within 4 years.  She was integral in selling MEDai to Reed Elsevier in 2008.  Post-acquisition, Ms. Abbott became CEO of multiple companies acquired by Reed Elsevier.  She was also instrumental in establishing and expanding the healthcare analytics business for Reed Elsevier.

ViPS, Inc.: December 2000 to January 2003

Managing Director, Medical Management Strategic Business Unit: 2000 to 2003

ViPS was a leading provider of data warehousing and quality improvement solutions for payers. Ms. Abbott managed overall P&L for ViPS’ Medical Management line of business. Her primary focus was to provide a strategic customer and market driven focus to each product group as well as to ensure that the development, implementation and customer service teams were aligned to support the strategic direction for the product.

HealthObjects Corporation: August 1998 to December 2000

HealthObjects was a wholly owned subsidiary of Genesis Health Ventures which provided long-term care pharmacy solutions to Genesis’ their skilled nursing facilities. Ms. Abbott lead Product Management, Customer Service, and IT for the company to enable automation of the long-term care pharmacy operations and workflow.

Ms. Abbott lead the product team for coding/abstracting and clinical software used by the Medical Records, Quality Assurance, Utilization Management, Risk Management, and Infection Control departments for multiple hospitals across the United States.
